As a direct support person, one of your main responsibilities is to help your person learn these skills so that they are able to do these skills independently. By being more independent in these skills, you can increase their self esteem. They can feel empowered by being able to do tasks on their own being less reliant on others to help them. Having this independence also increases the choices in activities that they are able to do. For some, if they are able to do enough of these activities independently, they can live alone in their own apartment or home. This training will give you general guidelines of how to support a person in learning IADLs and specific training for various activities.
